Designer FAQs: Faux Florals, Plants, and Trees

What kinds of artificial florals are there? Are they in style?

Drawing inspiration from the variety found in nature, our artisans have created an array of faux flowers, plants, and trees as broad as it is stunning—and it’s always evolving with new options to explore. Here are just a few examples of what you’ll find:

As for whether they’re in style…when weren’t they? Inspired by trends in the floral industry, we curate Instagram-worthy arrangements that look like you just got them from the florist. Our merchants and artisan partners work to keep our faux plant assortment feeling fresh.

Which faux florals should I choose?

Looking for inspiration? We have ideas! One of the great things about faux florals is that they’re so swappable. Choose a few you love and change them up whenever you like.

Here are a few ideas to get you started:

  • Look around your space and choose an accent color that pops out to you, then shop for flower décor in that hue. The result will look harmonious with the décor you already have.
  • For a look that’s clean and modern, we reach for succulent arrangements in low bowls or tall, textured branch arrangements.
  • When designing a classic space, roses and orchids are a must-have.
  • Garden-style gatherings of many blooms have a more wild, organic feel that works well in coastal and casual spaces.
  • Got an empty corner or wall space that needs brightening? Add a faux tree to introduce a pop of green and add vertical presence to your décor.

OK, but they’re all so pretty and I can’t decide. Help!

This is our favorite problem to have, and that’s why we’re so happy to help you! Whether you’re overwhelmed by options or just want someone else to do all the thinking for you, scheduling a home call with your designer is the best way to get our advice on choosing faux florals and other accents.

Are your faux florals worth it? Why can’t I just get stems from the craft store?

The faux florals you purchase from Ethan Allen are one of a kind, often made by hand, and require no maintenance on your part. Unlike cut flowers which need to be tossed after a week or two, our artificial florals have the longevity you need to make them truly a part of your décor.

Our ready-to-go faux plants are made to the same exacting standards for beauty and quality you’re used to in our furniture. Here’s why our faux florals are in a league of their own:

  • Realism is our highest priority. Our faux florals mimic real-life blooms in size, shape, color, and even fullness—because realism is the secret to luxury when it comes to artificial florals. The result is a finished piece with an undeniable air of luxury.
  • Each material is selected for its lifelike feel. Our high-quality faux florals have a delicate look that’s secretly durable. Go ahead and fluff them or gently move the petals and leaves into the look that’s right for you.
  • Every color is selected to closely emulate nature. No two of our faux florals are alike, just as you would see with real flowers in nature. Arranged together, not-quite-matching petals and leaves result in faux blooms that boast lifelike gradients, saturation, and perfected imperfection.

You won’t find this level of quality and artistry at most craft stores. Our faux florals are investment pieces: One arrangement can come out year after year, freshening up your space over many seasons with just one purchase.

Your faux florals seem pretty big in the Design Center. Why is that?

We love the look of a statement floral, and bigger blooms have a grand impact on a room’s look and feel. Some of our florals are sized for statement spaces—like a large faux branch arrangement in an entryway with vaulted ceilings—but we also have smaller arrangements like succulents in low bowls and faux florals in linear vases. These look great on bookshelves and smaller end tables.

The best way to know if a floral will fit in the space you envision it is to try our EA inHome® app on your phone or, for a faster option, go to the product page for the floral you like and view it using WebAR. Get started with our visualization tools here.

Can I use faux florals outside?

Faux florals make great centerpieces, even on the patio or by the pool! Like with all our décor, you’re welcome to bring our faux florals outside with you, as long as you bring them inside when you’re done. Never let them sit in the sun or leave them out in rain and snow.
