Fabulous style. For some, it’s practically second nature. For others, it’s not so simple. If you’re one of the latter, don’t worry! We have one of our all-time favorite gents, Thom Filicia, to the design-rut rescue.
Thom is not just a design guru, he plays one on TV. The exuberant host of The Style Network’s hit series Dress My Nest, as well as author of the just-released bestseller Thom Filicia Style, intertwines the roles of therapist, stand-in spouse, and brutally honest best friend into his main role as designer – making him the style-savant people trust, respect, and ultimately love to have decorating their homes.
Recently, Thom traveled to Los Angeles to meet the vivacious duo Danny and Maria. Recent transplants from Miami, Danny and Maria hoped to inject a chic and dramatic dose of their beloved South Beach into their lofty bedroom, which was looking more meager than minimalist.
Thom asked them each to provide him with a few items to inspire their new room design. From Maria’s wedding gown to a colorful bikini, the pair handed off sentimental mementos and thoughtful inspiration to Thom, who took their design cues and got to work.
They started out together at the Ethan Allen Design Center in Agoura Hills, California, for a day of bedroom shopping. Danny and Maria’s eyes were opened to a slew of new décor possibilities they hadn’t considered, and Thom, having impressed them with his humor and charm, headed off to work on the project.
While Danny and Maria patiently waited elsewhere, their room was quickly transformed. With the addition of some key pieces, the bedroom took shape — by bringing in the low, modern Morgan bed, the sleekness of both the Wire Form Table and the Xanadu Benches and the beachy ease of the Balta chair, Thom created a South Beach hotel-inspired haven certain to elicit feelings of both calm and elation.
So how did Danny and Maria feel about the finished look? Thom “hit it out of the ballpark” with this one, according to the ecstatic couple. The proof? Maria’s positively delighted shriek as she feasted her eyes on the finished look!
And to all a good night….
