    Katsushika Hokusai was a Japanese artist, painter, and printmaker of the Edo period. He was known as Japan’s expert on Chinese painting. Born in Tokyo to a family of artisans, Hokusai began painting at the age of six, and has been known by at least thirty different names over the span of his career. He produced his most important work after age 60, and was best known for his religiously inspired depictions of Mt. Fuji.
