This piece has an ancient Isfahani design that was favored by Persian royalty. The Persian city of Isfahan is located in the central west of Iran and is well known for its carpet-weaving craftsmen. The wools used in this piece are a mixture of famous Ghazni wools and other various Arabian wools. Ghazni is a small city in Afghanistan and the wool from its mountains is referred to as Ghazni wool. This wool is rare and hard to come by, so the rugs are woven with a blend of Ghazni wool and various Arabian wools, generally those from Saudi Arabia. The wools are blended in Pakistan and have a unique antique look. The rugs are made using a hand-spun weaving technique that requires more time than spinning the yarns with machines. This rug was crafted by hand on looms in Peshawar, Pakistan.
