Designer tour: Romance

Ethan Allen designer Vincent explores a look that evokes all the charm of the French countryside. See below for a transcript of this video.

Hi, I’m Vincent, and this is Ethan Allen Express, and this look is from the Romance lifestyle. The sounds of George and Ira Gershwin’s Bonjour Paris from the ultimate romantic Fred Astaire and Audrey Hepburn movie were certainly in my head when I was designing this room. Like a summer in Provence, this romantic living room brings the countryside home to your pied a terre or New York apartment. The neutral color palette of linens and creams and whites brings to mind shopping in little French villages where the market is filled with tables covered with fresh-baked baguettes wrapped in white paper, or laden with morning mushrooms foraged by local farmers. The large screened damask pattern on our Fairfax chair adds panache to the calming ivory and natural color scheme, and our new open caged table lamps recall egg baskets filled fresh that morning, continuing the market vibe; and the muted wall décor of vintage postage stamps brings to mind the flea markets that the French are so well known for, while the dragonfly accent pillows continue the countryside-meets-city life in a setting befitting Marie Antoinette.
