Terra-cotta horses from the Tang era (618-907 AD) are the most sought after of the antique Chinese horse styles. Though Han dynasty horses are even older, many more were made; the Tang horses' rarity adds to their desirability. Like an original, our reproduction is handcrafted from red terra-cotta clay. It's air-dried for a minimum of 21 days before its first firing, and our artisans age and weather it gradually with six separate hand-applied layers of glaze and texture and more firings in between. The result is a remarkable finish, almost ivory-like; the effect is period authentic.
